It’s good for the soul!

It’s all about the people – the friends that you make and the people you meet, volunteers and clients alike, you meet such a variety of people with such interesting stories. We all have a common goal, which is to bring what comfort we can to those less fortunate and see an end to homelessness. The quick wit from the clients is magic, you share a joke, make them a cup of tea and be sure you have a bit of chocolate or a biscuit to go with the tea. The clients are so thankful, a hot drink and a bit of chat can make all the difference for someone who has had a tough day.

I started volunteering when my friend , whom I worked with in eBay, organised a clothes appeal in Lucan 5 years ago with his friend Gareth. The response was fantastic, the next thing for the lads to do was find a worthy charity, and that is how my involvement with ICHH started 5 years ago. During that time, I’ve supported the Mobile Outreach team and more recently joined the Fundraising team. I really enjoying liaising with our corporate partners who have made such valuable contributions to ICHH over the years.

I’ve a few fond memories along the way from fundraising efforts, a skydive with Brian and Emma Jean and the Father Ted cycling tour with colleagues from Paddy Power, some of who volunteer with ICHH.

Volunteering is such a humbling experience, it makes you thankful for the things we may take for granted, like a warm bed. If you’re thinking about volunteering with ICHH or some other charity of your choosing I can’t recommend it highly enough – you’ll meet some great people, you will make a difference, and for me, it’s good for the soul!
